The Endless “to do” …

Tom and I have been talking about doing a world school year ever since Jimmy was born. Mind you, we were living in Nepal at the time so that wasn’t really that big a stretch, but I guess we weren’t doing “school” yet, so there you have it.
The plan was to get some some backpacks, some boarding passes, and the rest would just fall into place. The world would open before us in a big, glorious adventure. Right?! That wasn’t too far from how I did it as a single woman, or even when Tom and I were just married. No house! No problem!
Even after three kids, I wasn’t thinking about the endless questions and details that go into planning and preparing for a trip like this.
Where do we go?
When do we leave? How long? How many countries? What’s the route?
We should probably finish our karate black-belt test first.
Doctor appointments, middle-age check-ups, dentist appointments, travel vaccinations…
We really should get that mole checked out…
How do you withdraw from private school?
How do you even homeschool?
How many curriculums are there to choose?
Online vs. books?
We need to figure out health insurance.
How do you pack three seasons of clothing for a 9 month trip?
How much Sudafed can I buy at a time?
How do we celebrate Christmas, Easter, birthdays when everything is up in the air?
What do you do about phones, internet, unexpected health emergencies?
What do you do with the house? The dog, the hamster, the plants, the garden?
There are so many more details than just booking a few hotels and flights.
And then …
How do you say goodbye?
And also …
How do you stay in touch?

That packing is highly efficient!! I would have had 12 more bags...
