The next morning, however, we got up early and walked down (bundled in all our layers) to the lake’s edge and took so many photos as we wandered along the stoney shore. This blue, which is apparently from glacier silt is so vivid, so gorgeous, so clear that it somehow seemed unreal.

Then there were the wildflowers: first in small patches, then veritable fields of pink and purple Lupins and bright yellow and orange marigold smelling blossoms. We stopped for a bit to enjoy the lakeside playground and then meandered towards the Church of the Good Shepherd, a small charming stone chapel from long ago that is one of the most photographed places in New Zealand.

It was almost too much beautiful … tempers started to be quick, rests more frequent, and the beginning of a tantrum at the thought of attending a 4 pm church service. It was only noon. Time for lunch, a good rest and an afternoon or reading.

Later we drove back to the church and in the five minutes it took to get there, WWIII erupted over feet space under the dining table. So, only Jimmy and Tom went to the service, while I stayed back in the RV (parked at a precarious angle) with the other two doing some math work.

We visited the playground again to zip-line and then stayed up late to look at the stars. I think we are going to like it here.
