It was a very long travel day weekend as we took a domestic flight from Mt. Hagen to the capital of Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby. There we stayed in a hotel overnight and then flew out early the next morning to Manila, where we had an 8 hour layover before we then flew on to our next country. Malaysia. We would be there for just over one month.

We arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 2 am, but it felt more like 4 am. We were exhausted, but thankfully, we had booked a nice hotel in the center of town.

After a day of rest, we were ready to venture out.

Maybe most people on their first trip to Kuala Lumpur head out to see some culture or get some good food. We did all that as well, but since we let the kids take the lead in planning Malaysia, our actual first stop was KidZania.

This was a museum about jobs and was probably one of the coolest concepts for a kids’ museum I have ever seen. You start with getting 50 kidzos (KidZanian currency). You can use this to spend on various activities around (art, climbing wall, food, etc.) or you can go do some jobs and earn more cash. It was set up like a small city and you could wander all through to try to jobs and activities.

There are so many jobs you can do, and we didn’t even cover half of them.

Some jobs my kids chose were: hotel workers, housecleaning, dentists, radio DJs, air conditioner repair workers, scientists, florists, spies, chocolatiers, animators, cookie makers, electricity generators, robotics engineer

This was a job where there were generating electricity while also blending smoothies.

But of all the jobs they said their favorite was being subway sandwich artists. Lol

Lucy, a budding sandwich artist!

We certainly didn't do everything they had there to try. Some other jobs the kid have tried were a surgeon, firefighter, police officer, sushi maker, actor, runway model, banker, magician and so much more.

It was so much fun! We stayed until they kicked us out.

Later that evening, we wandered into a fun grocery store that seemed to be an interesting fusion between an Asian comic book and a Trader Joes. It was called Don Don Donki.

These little gummy hamburgers were actually pretty good. I mean, they didn't taste anything like hamburgers, but they surprised me!

Grocery stores are some of my favorite places to visit while traveling, and we are looking forward to spending more time in them than we were able to in PNG.

KidZania sounded amazing, what a great concept! I've never heard of that concept - and you'd think it would work here in the US.
