Shanghai was a fun city, and we had a great guide in Claire.

The first place she took us was the Yuyuan Garden. It was a gorgeous private garden built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty. It was so lovely with the trees, the path, the bridges, the rock gardens.

The market just outside the garden was also a lot of fun with rice wine tastings, cute ice creams, a chocolate museum, robot ice cream shops, and more.

At some point, Sammy mentioned that he never had Boba Tea, so Claire took us to an underground market where we got him Boba tea and got distracted by all sorts of other interesting things to buy.

We also went to the Shanghai Tower, noted as the 2nd tallest in the world with the world’s fastest elevator.

The next day we went to the Zhujiajiao Ancient Town. This is a charming river down loaded with alleys and shops. We had a great lunch, wandered around a good bit, and then took a boat ride along the canal to another private garden to explore.

Then we had to say goodbye to our tour guide. Lucy cried a bit.

Shanghai was a great wrap up to our time in China, which was full of ups and downs, and so many fascinating experiences.

I have loads to think about, so many questions begging for answers and about a million things I want to research, now that I have access to google once again.

Would love to hear more of your thoughts on China once you’ve had time to think and process and google. There’s a really good documentary worth watching called Ai Wei Wei: Never Sorry
