One of the main reasons people come to Guilin is as a starting point to see the Karst Mountains.

So we took a Li River Cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo where we would stay the night. It was a beautiful four-hour boat ride with tea and lunch and some of the most magnificent views I’ve ever seen.

Yangshuo is probably my favorite place in China.

When we got to Yangshuo, we were delighted by our hotel as well; Yangshuo River Lodge.

It was quiet and oh so beautiful!

This is the view from my balcony.

We decided right away that one night was not enough and if we came back to China, we would head straight here and stay at least a week. There were so many things that we wanted to try: Cormorant fishing, riding bamboo rafts, calligraphy and painting classes, painting, caving, canyoneering, cooking classes, bicycle tours.

Plus, I could look at these mountains for years and not get enough.

These are from a nearby viewpoint that was a short, but steep, walk from a truly excellent coffee hut.

Then we found out that the original “Impressions show,” (like the one we saw in Lijiang) was actually right here in Yangshuo and used the river and mountains as the scenery.

Well, we got tickets right away.

We are clearly more excited than the folks behind us!

The next day we returned to Guilin to catch our flight to our Shanghai.

On the way, we had one last stop at a lovely overlook called Xianggong Hill.

I mean, come on!!

I have a feeling that we will be back here.

I thought the mountains along the Li River were prettier than those along the Yangtze. There's something so magical and calming about them.
